Sicilian Rosé Wines you can't miss this summer

The right time to drink rosé wine? NOW!

Appetizers, first courses, meat or fish dishes, sauces. Rosé wine fears nothing and no one because its main characteristic is versatility. A wide range of rosé shades are produced in Sicily to delight all palates. Going from dry Sicilian rosés with more intense nuances, of medium structure and complexity, to more slender, delicate and savory expressions, much more immediate, Everything depends on the variety of black berry grapes used and the time of maceration on the skins: each wine will therefore have its own peculiarities and facets. The choice is yours, but in my opinion the most captivating and unusual expressions can be found from both native and international grape varieties. An in-depth look at the rosé polyphony of Sicilian production conveys that every selected black grape variety lends itself well to being reinterpreted according to this typology, thus conveying a new key to the narrative of the grape variety itself and its terroir.

It releases a rich bouquet of flowers and fruit but also spices, kumquat, and tamarind. The sip is savory almost salty of brackish rock, which excellently accompanies a lively fruit, with a slight final balsamic note that closes the circle. Wine of great character.

Very fresh, fragrant, forthright and delicately fruity, with a pleasant savory trail and juiciness. Made from Syrah grapes grown in Val di Noto, in the province of Syracuse, it is a summary of vitality and finesse, perfectly accomplished and defined earthy juice. The limited run and high demand make it a wine to grab as soon as possible and to stock up on.

A must-have biodynamic wine from Contrada Buonivi in Val di Noto, inspired by the traditional “pista e mbutta” or crush and cask, an ancient local technique for producing rosé from Nero d’Avola grapes, from which it takes its name.
It reveals all the frank and fruity fragrance in a delicate, satisfying, and streamlined sip, tinged with aromas of small red fruits, Mediterranean herbs, and floral essences.

pettirosa-Fausta-Mansio

Moscato Bianco macerated with Cabernet Sauvignon skins for an explosive and unprecedented rosé wine from the organic winery situated just outside of Syracuse. Where rosé is conceived only from red grapes, here is brazen and irreverent evidence for a wine that blends the characters of the two contrasting varietals.
The nose is rich with strawberry, black mulberry, and balsamic puffs with hints of orange blossom and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is fresh, fragrant, just slightly tannic, and aromatically in line with the nose. A champion of drinkability that refreshes and brings joy.

NUZZELLA-etna-wine-ROSATO

A volcanically sourced organic rosé made from pure Nerello Mascalese grapes with maceration on the skins for 24 hours. Fermented in French oak tonneaux, refined in steel. A rosé for summer to drink chilled, even cold, and with little alcohol. This is Azienda Agricola Nuzzella’s idea and we love it. From a bouquet with a high fruit component reminiscent of small red berries and cherry; puffs of Mediterranean bush, orange peel, and mineral hints are also perceived. The palate is enveloped by smooth sip and a very pleasant savory finish.

A wine that is ready to be consumed today but will continue to express this irrepressible expressive power in a few years’ time.

Bonavita’s Rosato is born on the steep hills of Faro Superiore in the province of Messina from a blend of Sicilian native grapes: Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, and Nocera. Matured briefly in steel, the wine tells of red berry fruits, such as plums, strawberries and cranberries; red carnation, and wild herbs. On the palate, it confirms itself as a wine for the whole meal, enveloping, juicy, medium-bodied and with bright acidity.
